What is the role of the client and the therapist?

I recognize that the client has all the inner resources necessary to heal and grow. It is the therapist's job to support the client in becoming aware of, and trusting their own wisdom. Traditional psychology tends to see the therapist's "knowledge" and "interpretation" as the ultimate source of wisdom whereas using a heart focused approach, I see the client's intuition as the ultimate source of wisdom. My role is to help clients heal and remove what is blocking them from connecting to their hearts so they can live their best lives.

How long will therapy take?

Therapy does not have to take a long time. My intention in working with my clients is to give them tools in which they learn to access their own inner wisdom therefore decreasing the tendency to become dependent on a therapist.

What techniques do you use?

Specifically, I primarily use experiential techniques such as: Guided Visualization, Art Therapy, Inner Child/Re-parenting, Gestalt/Voice Dialogue work and Inner Bonding. I also integrate traditional modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Self Psychology and Family Systems. I determine which technique to use based on the needs and desires of the client. In addition, I teach specific techniques to support clients in connecting to the source of higher wisdom and love within themselves.

What is the role of spirituality in your approach to therapy?

When we connect with our authentic selves we can experience a greater sense of love and wisdom that is the creative source of all things. People use many different words to describe this. Some call it God, some call it Spirit, some call it Light, and some call it Jesus, Buddha or a Higher Power. Others have their own personal way of defining this for themselves. I teach people how to connect to this source in order to facilitate their healing and growth, using whatever form is comfortable or meaningful for them.
